Legacy System Support

We have a wealth of experience spanning two decades, and this helps us support legacy systems as successfully as we do new developments.

Legacy systems often suffer from problems such as component obsolescence and diminished system/platform knowledge, and it can be seen as an undesired burden for a company to support for the duration required by industry.

Our experience of legacy technologies include:

 • VAX VMS (including DCL) and Unix development platforms, with maintained operational systems in house.
 • Older microprocessor/microcontroller experience, e.g. Motorola 68K family.
 • Design/verification processes, e.g. Yourdon, custom test harnesses.
 • Software architectures such as custom scheduler, direct interrupt driven systems, custom memory managers etc.

In all cases, we are experienced in working to key industry standards such as DO178B Level A or 61508 SIL 4, regardless of the process or technology involved.

We can assist in supporting legacy systems in a number of ways, to best suit a particular client's needs.  This assistance includes, for example:

 • Making changes to the system functionality, ensuring all necessary knock-ons to requirements, design and verification activities are correctly carried out.
 • Migrating/porting a systems to a new platform, possibly to overcome component obsolescence.
 • Taking full ownership of the system for the remainder of service life.

Our flexible approach to software service support provides solutions that genuinely aim to reduce the overall difficulties facing a client.
