Awareness of a systems' health, and the ability to respond to problems or avoid anticipated upcoming problems, is crucial for ensuring system safety and maintenance.  These applications can take the form of system health subsystems of a larger device, or equipment monitoring an independent product.

In most  high integrity products, a safety case is dependent upon the health monitoring equipment and subsystems, therefore robust implementation is critical.
